Behind the Pediatric Intensive Care Foundation is a team of extraordinary people — clinicians, researchers, nurses, and administrators — united by a single purpose: to give every critically ill child the very best chance of survival and recovery. Here you will find the people who make our work possible.
Foundation Leadership
Prof. dr hab. n.med. Alicja Bartkowska-Śniatkowska
President of the FoundationProfessor Bartkowska-Śniatkowska is one of Poland's foremost specialists in paediatric anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine. She holds the position of Head of the Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Pediatric Intensive Therapy at the Medical University of Karol Marcinkowski in Poznan, and simultaneously leads the Foundation she helped establish.
Her clinical and academic career spans more than three decades, during which she has treated thousands of critically ill children, trained generations of specialist physicians, and published extensively in the field of paediatric intensive care. Her leadership of the Foundation reflects her lifelong conviction that no child should be denied the best possible care due to a lack of resources.
Foundation Board
Governing BodyThe Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors responsible for strategic direction, financial oversight, and ensuring the organisation fulfils its statutory objectives. Board members bring expertise from medicine, law, finance, and public health to their roles.
The Board meets regularly to review the Foundation's activities, approve major expenditures, and ensure full transparency and accountability in the use of donor funds. All major decisions — including equipment purchases and construction investments — are subject to Board approval.
The Medical Team
The Pediatric ICU is staffed around the clock by a multidisciplinary team of highly trained specialists. Their skill, dedication, and compassion are what make the unit one of the most respected paediatric critical care facilities in Poland.
Paediatric Intensivists
Our consultant physicians are specialists in paediatric intensive care medicine, trained to manage the full spectrum of life-threatening conditions in children from birth to age 18. They lead the clinical care of every patient in the unit, making complex decisions under pressure with expertise and precision.
Specialist Nurses
Our intensive care nurses are the backbone of the unit. Working in close partnership with physicians, they provide round-the-clock bedside care, administer treatments, monitor vital signs, and offer compassionate support to patients and their families during the most difficult times.
Paediatric Anaesthesiologists
Anaesthesiology and intensive care are deeply intertwined in our unit. Our anaesthesiologists manage sedation, pain control, and procedural support for our most fragile patients — including the use of advanced regional anaesthesia techniques funded by the Foundation.
Specialist Consultants
Complex paediatric cases often require input from multiple specialties. Our unit works closely with cardiologists, neurologists, surgeons, neonatologists, and other specialists who provide expert consultation and collaborative care for the most challenging patients.
Physiotherapists
Recovery from critical illness is a physical as well as medical process. Our physiotherapy team works with patients during and after their ICU stay, supporting respiratory rehabilitation, mobility, and physical recovery — helping children return to full health as quickly as possible.
Administrative & Support Staff
Behind every clinical team is a network of administrative, logistics, and support professionals who keep the unit running smoothly. From coordinating equipment maintenance to supporting families with practical needs, their work is essential to the unit's effectiveness.
Education & Development
The Foundation is deeply committed to the ongoing professional development of the medical team. Excellence in paediatric intensive care requires continuous learning — as medical knowledge evolves, treatments improve, and new technologies emerge.
The Foundation supports:
- Attendance at national and international medical conferences
- Specialist training courses in paediatric intensive care and anaesthesiology
- Simulation-based training using advanced medical mannequins
- Access to the latest medical literature and research databases
- Collaborative research projects with partner institutions
- Teaching and mentoring programmes for junior physicians and nurses
By investing in people as well as equipment, the Foundation ensures that our unit remains at the forefront of paediatric critical care in Poland.
