Our Purpose

Why we exist, what we believe, and the vision that drives us forward.

"It is worth making every effort to help save even one more child's life."

This belief sits at the heart of everything the Pediatric Intensive Care Foundation does. Since our founding, we have been driven by the conviction that no child should lose their fight for life simply because the right equipment, facilities, or knowledge were not available.

Our Core Mission

The primary purpose of the Pediatric Intensive Care Foundation is to support the development of a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit that meets the highest standards of 21st-century medicine. This means:

  • Funding the purchase of modern, specialised medical equipment
  • Supporting the construction and expansion of the ICU facilities
  • Enabling ongoing education and professional development for medical staff
  • Raising public awareness of the needs of critically ill children
  • Building lasting partnerships with donors, sponsors, and the wider community

The unit we support is located in Poznan, Poland, and serves children from birth to the age of 18. It is a regional reference centre for critically ill children from the Wielkopolska, Lubuskie, and Zachodniopomorskie voivodeships.

What We Stand For

+

Excellence in Care

We believe every child, regardless of background, deserves access to the most advanced medical care available. We work tirelessly to ensure our unit is equipped with the tools necessary to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Compassion

Behind every patient is a family facing one of the hardest moments of their lives. We hold the wellbeing of both patients and their loved ones at the centre of everything we do — supporting not just medical recovery, but human dignity.

Transparency

As a registered foundation, we are committed to full transparency in how we use the resources entrusted to us. Every donation is directed where it is needed most — directly supporting our unit and its patients.

Innovation

Medicine is constantly advancing. We stay at the forefront of paediatric critical care by investing in cutting-edge equipment, supporting research, and enabling our team to learn and grow alongside the latest developments in the field.

Who We Serve

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit we support treats children in life-threatening conditions — from premature newborns to teenagers up to the age of 18. Our patients arrive with a wide range of critical conditions, including:

  • Severe respiratory failure
  • Post-operative critical care following complex surgery
  • Sepsis and serious infectious diseases
  • Neurological emergencies
  • Trauma and accident-related critical injuries
  • Cardiac conditions requiring intensive monitoring

Our unit serves as a regional reference centre, accepting the most severe cases from across multiple voivodeships when local hospitals lack the specialist capacity to treat them.

The Vision: A 21st-Century Pediatric ICU

Our long-term vision is the creation of a fully modern, purpose-built Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. A space where:

Patients come first

The environment is designed around the needs of sick children and their families — with private spaces, natural light, and a calming atmosphere that supports healing alongside clinical care.

Technology leads the way

Every bed is supported by the latest monitoring systems, ventilators, infusion pumps, and diagnostic tools. Our staff have instant access to the data they need to make life-saving decisions.

Staff can perform at their best

A modern facility enables our multidisciplinary team — physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and specialist consultants — to collaborate seamlessly and deliver care at the highest possible standard.
