What the Foundation Does
The Pediatric Intensive Care Foundation is active on multiple fronts — from purchasing critical equipment and funding renovations to supporting staff development and raising public awareness. Below you will find a summary of our key activities and achievements.
Regional Anaesthesia Kit — Safira
The Foundation funded the purchase of the Safira regional anaesthesia kit — a state-of-the-art system that allows our anaesthesiologists to perform highly targeted nerve blocks in paediatric patients, reducing the need for general anaesthesia and improving recovery times.
Echocardiographic Probe for Critical Care
Cardiac complications are among the most serious challenges faced in the Pediatric ICU. The Foundation funded the purchase of a specialist echocardiographic probe designed specifically for use in critically ill children — enabling rapid, bedside cardiac assessment without moving fragile patients.
ICU Ward Expansion — 2019
From January 2019, a major expansion of the Pediatric ICU began. The Foundation contributed significantly to this project, which aimed to increase bed capacity, improve patient flow, and modernise the physical environment of the ward to meet 21st-century standards.
Our Beautiful Ward
Our Pediatric ICU at ul. Szpitalna in Poznan is a space we are proud of — not just for its clinical capabilities, but for the environment it creates. We believe that a warm, well-equipped, and well-maintained ward contributes directly to the wellbeing of our patients and their families.
Staff Training and Development
Excellent equipment is only as good as the people who use it. The Foundation supports ongoing education, specialist training, and conference attendance for our medical team — ensuring our doctors and nurses remain among the most skilled paediatric intensive care professionals in Poland.
Infection Season Preparedness
Each year, the autumn and winter infection season places enormous pressure on the Pediatric ICU. The Foundation works to ensure the unit is fully prepared — with adequate supplies, staffing support, and public communication campaigns to reduce preventable admissions and protect the most vulnerable children.
Responding to the Infection Season
The annual infection season does not spare our paediatric patients. Each year, the Pediatric ICU sees a significant increase in admissions as respiratory viruses, sepsis, and other serious infections take hold in children who are already vulnerable.
The Foundation plays an active role in preparing the unit for this annual challenge — working with medical staff, donors, and public health authorities to ensure the ward is fully equipped and ready. This includes:
- Pre-season restocking of critical supplies and medications
- Ensuring adequate staffing levels during peak periods
- Public awareness campaigns on prevention and early intervention
- Coordination with regional hospitals to manage referrals effectively
